    The distance, s, in feet, traveled by a body falling freely from rest in t seconds is approximated by the function s(t) = 16t^2. An experimenter on a ladder releases a marble from rest. The marble takes 3 seconds to fall to the ground. How high was the marble when it was released (and what is the gravitational acceleration)?

    S = 16·3^2 = 16·9 = 144 feet
    Gravitational Acceleration as feet per second squared: g (ft / s^2) ===> used only in the US, Liberia, and Myanmar.
    (1 / 2)·g·3^2 = 144 ⇒ g = 32 ft / s^2.
